The image at the upper left side represents irregular periventricular hyperintensities extending into the deep white matter (PVH), while the one at the upper right side represents confluent hyperintensities in the deep white matter (DWMH). Representative maps of FA, MD, AD and RD from the same subject are shown in the middle and lower side. The location shown in the diffusion maps is almost identical to the one demonstrated as DWMH. A part of the DWMH with T₂-weighted image shows low FA, and high MD, AD and RD in the DTI as shown by the arrow colored with yellow.
